Five 50-word stories
Story one
Solomon grits his teeth and fights his fatigue, as the sun blazes onto his already dark skin. The heat is almost unbearable; Solomon wipes the sweat off his clean-shaven head. He pauses for a moment, catching his breath. His search for his family within the thick forestation is leading nowhere.
Story two
Just like any other day, Cheryl takes her usual route home down the dimly lit alley. As she was happily chatting over the handphone, she detects a pungent rotting smell and it seems to get stronger as she walked on. She picked up her pace as discomfort fills her body.
Story three
“My name is Dan. Listen carefully to what I say as I won’t repeat myself. I said my name and that’s the who. Recently I killed my wife with my shotgun. That’s the what. As for the why and the how, you got to ask my wife. But you can’t”.
Story four
At the speed of one hundred and fifty kilometers an hour, other vehicles just seems blur to me. Blood is rushing to my head and I can feel the acceleration of pulse by my eyes. I have to shake off that police pursuit fast because my gas is running low.
Story five
Blindfolded, Hugh can only hear the sinister laughter of a bunch of men. Moments later, someone whammed his head against the table and removed his blindfold. Laughter gets louder. They grabbed his hair with a forceful grip and raised his head. An accented man whispered, “Welcome to Afghanistan’s Guantanamo Bay”.
There are some good stories in here but you have to remember that good stories must have conflict and good characterization – most of your stories here don’t follow that convention and as a result, seem a little deflated.
